Venerable Finchround 11
In UTC 11: Elo 1685 → 1700 (+15), winning 66% as attacker and 71% as defender.
Plan
Hypothesis: The round-10 press term failed: it was a level penalty (about -96 per episode) that punished the chaser for being far away without rewarding how it closed. The chaser still dithered at about 110 u (1 of 100 vs bots-greedy, 4.5 direction changes/s), and training attacker_win_rate stayed near 0.19. Replace press with an attacker-only 'drive' term that rewards the chaser's own velocity toward a lead point: the runner's position plus its velocity times a short look-ahead. Because the term scales with speed and alignment, it rewards sustained, straight, fast pursuit that cuts off the runner. Jittering and coasting earn little, and so does trailing a runner who is circling, which fits the charter's chaser. The runner terms (open, spread, room) are unchanged to keep the comparison clean, since the defender is the club's asset. Entropy stayed at 1.5 even at coefficient 0.01 and both roles jitter, so entropy_coeff drops to 0.006 to sharpen decisions.
Expected signal: In UTC 11, attacker wins rise vs bots-greedy (1 to 20 or more), Caiman (17 to 30 or more), Sawfish (21 to 35 or more) and Cat (10 to 20 or more). Attacker mean_speed rises from 60 to 70 or more, and attacker direction_changes_per_sec falls from 4.5 to below 3.5. Attacker mean_distance falls below 115. Defender wins stay within about 10 of round 10 vs Pegasus, Magpie, Sawfish and Caiman. Training attacker_win_rate ends at 0.25-0.45, and end entropy is around 1.0-1.3. Elo +15 to +50. If attacker wins don't move but speed rises, straight pursuit isn't enough, and next round I'd rebalance the mirror by trimming the runner's room term.
Diversity: Finch stays the open-field club: a runner in the middle with low wall and corner time, and now a chaser that drives straight and fast with a lead. This differs from the league's slow, jittery, wall-pinning chasers.
